The Egyptian state’s efforts to confront climate change

Thursday 3/24/2022 There is no doubt that the issue of climate change has become the concern of many countries, because of its very significant impact in many areas. For this reason, the Egyptian state has implemented during the last period many projects to confront the phenomenon of climate change and achieve green recovery, which came within the plan. The state’s investment in the fields of transportation and clean mobility, which includes: 1- Ministry of Transport projects for expansion of metro lines 2- - The high-speed electric train project in Ain Sokhna - the New Administrative Capital - New Alamein, and the monorail lines in the Administrative Capital - and 6th of October City) 3- New and renewable energy and energy efficiency projects (establishing wind energy power plants in the Gulf of Suez and photovoltaic power plants, such as the Benban, Zaafarana, and Hurghada projects) 4- Northern coast protection projects 5- Projects to confront rain and floods 6- A project to rehabilitate and cultivate 1.5 million acres to achieve food security and compensate for land degradation and erosion in the Delta. 7- Sustainable water resources management projects to improve the efficiency of using water resources (establishing seawater desalination plants, sewage networks, tertiary treatment, and rehabilitating and renewing the national network of canals and water canals. And about the state’s efforts to promote the transition towards a green economy and provide financing to achieve sustainable development goals, and what was done in this context in preparing the first national report on financing sustainable development in Egypt, and what Egypt did in launching green bonds worth $750 million, for the first time in Africa and the East. The Middle East, noting that the private sector will launch green bonds worth between 120-200 million dollars, in addition to the efforts of the “Egypt Sovereign Fund for Investment and Development” in the field of climate change by investing in a number of green projects such as the hydrogen and ammonia production project. The Green Project, in partnership with a number of specialized international companies, and a project to produce train cars to support sustainable transportation efforts, as well as water desalination projects. Regarding the national efforts to confront the phenomenon of climate change, the Arab Republic of Egypt is honored to host the summit of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP 27) for the year 2022 in the city of Sharm El-Sheikh. This conference is a reflection of the pivotal role that Egypt plays regionally and internationally, so the state works with all its institutions and under direct guidance. From the President of the Republic to make this global event a success, and the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development believes in the importance of involving young people and exploiting their energy in confronting the phenomenon of climate change, adapting to its effects, and reducing carbon emissions.
